The 2012 release of the DS5 was the catalyst for Citroen's daring high-end success. Originally marketed as a Citroen DS5, the business separated the DS5 to establish the DS brand independently. The DS5, a near monobox hatchback with a lounge-like interior and dramatic style on the outside, is a mixed bag that dares to be distinctive against the all-too-predictable Germanic norm in the class it aspired to. Although the DS5 didn't have a big influence on the luxury class when production ceased in 2018, it did set the stage for the brand's SUV options, which are more in line with the automotive zeitgeist than the DS5 was.
Following the round of mechanical changes implemented during the 2015 relaunch, DS 5 running expenses are lower than the previous Citroen version.
DS 5 Fuel Consumption
The most expensive to run is the 1.6-litre THP 165 petrol engine, which has an official average consumption claim of 47.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 136g/km.
Conventional diesel engine units are expected to account for the majority of DS 5 sales, with the 1.6-litre BlueHDi 120 being the least expensive to run, with an average consumption claim of 70.6mpg and CO2 emissions of only 104g/km.
The diesel-electric hybrid 4x4 200 is the most economical, but few are anticipated to be sold because of its high starting cost. Diesel consumption is stated to be 72.4 mpg, while emissions are measured at 103 g/km.
The Hybrid4x4 vehicles had the lowest DS 5 emissions at the time of the revised model's debut, generating 103g/km.
With only 104g/km, the BlueHDi 120 outperformed the other conventional diesel engines, while the THP 165, the only petrol engine, was the most polluting at 136g/km.
Despite its aspirational premium badge, the DS5 should be less expensive to operate than its true, legacy premium competitors due to its Citroen heritage. The 120PS 1.6-liter and 150PS 2.0-liter turbodiesels were tested under the outdated NEDC fuel consumption criteria and were reported to get between 62 and 70 mpg on the official combined cycle. However, the actual fuel consumption is likely to be about 40 mpg, or a significant amount more on a longer, continuous drive.
DS 5 Running Costs
Although 48 mpg was quoted for the fuel options, 30 mpg will work well for everyday, frequent use. The hybrid was the best-performing vehicle in terms of advertised fuel economy; it was said to achieve 80 mpg or more, but on the road, you'll only get 45 to 50 mpg. That hybrid is definitely in the "assist" category; you might get a few meters on electric-only power, but not much more. Don't expect to see extended durations of electric-only motoring either.
The following displays the DS 5's fuel consumption in both miles per gallon (MPG) and kilometres per litre (km/L). These two numbers demonstrate the range that specific DS 5 model can cover with each gallon (4.55 litres) and litre (1000 millilitres) of fuel. A vehicle's efficiency and cost of operation increase with its MPG or km/L rating. In addition to giving you the total numbers, we also reveal how much fuel a DS 5 will use in city and urban driving situations, as well as on open highways and motorways.

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your DS 5 is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:
(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
