Ford Edge Fuel Consumption (MPG & km/L)

The Ford Edge is the company's first major North American SUV to arrive in Britain since the gas-guzzling Explorer more than ten years ago, and it's not a car for shrinking violets. Its two diesel engines make it far more enticing to buyers than its predecessor, which is what's different this time.

Ford thought the Edge, which was about the same size as the luxury Volkswagen Touareg but more closely priced to the Hyundai Santa Fe, would follow in the Volvo XC60's footsteps and appeal to a market of wealthy, family-oriented consumers. Although that hasn't occurred, the Edge is establishing itself as a well-liked option in this industry.

The daily operating expenses of the Ford Edge aren't much varied depending on the engine and transmission combination and alloy wheel size. The tax will be about the same for both private and fleet drivers because the little 19-inch alloys (149g/km) and the 20-inch items (152g/km) emit 3g/km less CO2.

Ford Edge Fuel ConsumptionFord Edge Fuel Consumption

Ford claims that its little wheels (if you can call 19-inch wheels "small") get 48.7 mpg and the larger ones get 47.9 mpg. That tiny change just won't matter while driving normally. Your driving style will have a much greater impact on your fuel costs; in practice, it can vary from 30 to 38 mpg, depending on how sensitive you are to the accelerator pedal.

How Green Is The Ford Edge?

A two-wheel drive version would be a clear method to further reduce CO2 emissions, but Ford has decided not to offer it in the UK as of now.

Similar circumstances apply to CO2 emissions, which aren't particularly noteworthy and are entirely dependent on alloy wheel size in the Ford Edge.

You should expect 149g/km with 19-inch wheels and 152g/km with 20-inch wheels, regardless of the engine and transmission.

When considering Volvo's (albeit smaller) rival XC60, which comes with two-wheel drive, neither number is especially impressive. On paper, though, the Edge is more efficient than competitors of comparable size, like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.

Ford Edge Running Costs

Keep in mind that although the Ford Edge is a great used car for the money, its operating costs are higher than those of some of its primary competitors.

Although the 2.0-litre turbodiesel variant with the highest power (238 PS) is the best to drive, its advertised 41 mpg translates to 30 mpg on daily driving.

With official fuel efficiency claims of up to 49 mpg, the other available turbodiesel engines are more economical. This corresponds to an mpg number in the high 30s, according to our Real MPG statistics.

For vehicles registered before April 1, 2017, these engines also have lower emissions than the twin-turbo 238PS motor, which results in a little reduction in road tax expenses.

As of this writing, this translates to a yearly Vehicle Excise Duty charge of £320 for the 238PS unit and £240 for the less powerful engines.

All cars registered after that date in 2017 pay the same flat charge of £180.

Although utilising an independent garage will save you a little more money, servicing a Ford Edge at a dealer won't be too expensive.

Based on specifications, the Ford Edge falls into insurance groups 26 to 27 (out of a range of groups from 1 to 50).

In terms of the cost of an annual premium, this places the Ford on par with its primary competitors.

Ford Edge Fuel Efficiency Figures

The fuel consumption of the Ford Edge is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Ford Edge variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Ford Edge in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

How To Calculate Real Fuel Consumption Of Your Ford Edge

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Ford Edge is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:

(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
